WEEK 3

WEEK 3

We started by having physical warm up as the whole class while forming a cycle to prepare our bodies for the activities of the day. It also helps to lessen the risk of injuries such as muscle pulls. While using physical movement in the classroom, they must be age appropriate for foundation phase leaners where they are less difficult.

An instructor grouped us into groups of three people per group and told each group to tell each other’s stories then form the action play/ performance of the story being told with attractive and interesting body language. This helps the teacher to develop leaners holistically as it improves domains such as social, emotional and cognitive development.  After each group performance audience, we asked to give constructive critic about what made the play work and what didn’t and most importantly where they can improve. This develops language skills as there is communication occurring. This kind of teaching practice helps to incorporate full participation of leaners in the classroom. This is linked to what was being discussed on Friday as it also emphasized the importance of stories as improving creativity, language, attention span and comprehension skills. In the seat in lecture, story books were read to us which is liked to what we did on Monday as we were also telling our stories however with gesture. The use of body language to tell stories can be challenging if there is plenty of ideas from our partners as it makes it difficult to decide which ideas can be incorporate to make the storytelling creative. However, there are success that come along using this strategy of storytelling. This includes deep comprehension of the story being played or presented through body movements. These activities were age appropriate for grade R leaners as there were not scary and no unaccepted language was used.
